Social Circus – FLO Grant Successful

Have you ever heard of social circus?

Social circus is a program of circus offered to young people who seek non-traditional ways to learn, to help them develop connection, trust and self confidence within the framework of developing physical skills. Students learn to take safe risks and to challenge themselves physically, socially and mentally. It’s often used as a way to engage and inspire young people who have disconnected with traditional approaches to schooling.

As part of our goal to serve the Castlemaine community, Castlemaine Circus has been interested in the concept of social circus for some time. Now we are thrilled to be the recipients of a Mount Alexander Shire Council community grant that will help us turn our social circus dream into reality.

Partnering with Castlemaine Secondary College and their FLO program (Flexible Learning Options), our community grant will allow us to offer two classes per week for three terms, teaching FLO students circus and parkour skills. With our FLO friends being based just next door to our Etty St home, it’s a great opportunity to strengthen our Etty St community too.
