ALL ACCESS CIRCUS

All Access Circus – A Play Space for Neurodivergent Kids

Castlemaine Circus is piloting a winter holiday program for neurodivergent kids. We would love you to enrol in a class and then share your experience to help make the best neuro-friendly class ever for your kids!

The classes will be both structured and exploratory so kids can choose what to do engage with, learn at their own pace and have fun in the circus space. We want to provide an opportunity for kids to grow in confidence, be creative, be physical and feel welcomed.

There will be two amazing trainers leading and supporting the class of 10 maximum students. There will be a chill out area in the space with sensory play. The circus classes will have a quieter atmosphere (juggling, tumbling, aerials) while the parkour class will have more energetic one (leaping, running, jumping, vaulting).

Carers should come into the space to begin the class and support their child. Carers are then welcome to stay for some or all of the class with the option of going back and forth depending on what works best for their child. Carers can sit in the foyer and watch through the big glass windows.

Social Circus – FLO Grant Successful

Have you ever heard of social circus?

Social circus is a program of circus offered to young people who seek non-traditional ways to learn, to help them develop connection, trust and self confidence within the framework of developing physical skills. Students learn to take safe risks and to challenge themselves physically, socially and mentally. It’s often used as a way to engage and inspire young people who have disconnected with traditional approaches to schooling.

As part of our goal to serve the Castlemaine community, Castlemaine Circus has been interested in the concept of social circus for some time. Now we are thrilled to be the recipients of a Mount Alexander Shire Council community grant that will help us turn our social circus dream into reality.

Partnering with Castlemaine Secondary College and their FLO program (Flexible Learning Options), our community grant will allow us to offer two classes per week for three terms, teaching FLO students circus and parkour skills. With our FLO friends being based just next door to our Etty St home, it’s a great opportunity to strengthen our Etty St community too.
